2017/08/14 – New Publication in Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine
The Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine has published a study that resulted from the concluded MACOCC project and Martin Hitziger's PhD in Guatemala. Using an innovative transdisciplinary approach, it sheds light on the interface of traditional healing and biomedicine in Guatemala from the perspective of indigenous patients. The publication also demonstrates that such approaches are useful to build trust and facilitate mutual learning, even in conflictive socio-cultural contexts. The study thus suggests a methodological approach for initiating intercultural medical care in developing countries. The research was conducted in collaboration with Councils of Maya Elders, the National Cancer Institute of Guatemala, and other partners. Funding was provided by ETH Zurich and the COGITO foundation.
