Since 2021, Ariane has been a doctoral student at TdLab. Previously, she graduated from ETH Zurich in environmental sciences with a focus on "Environmental Systems and Policy". As part of her master's thesis, she analyzed the public perception and acceptance of negative emission technologies (NETs) among the Swiss public. Her doctoral thesis on the reduction of academic air travel and virtual communication is strongly linked to the practice of ETH Zurich and the ETH air travel project. In her dissertation, she investigates current virtual research practices with a focus on conferences. She analyzes which factors influence the effectiveness of networking during virtual conferences, as well as the perceived advantages and disadvantages of different conference formats. She aims to understand how academic conference practices can be made more sustainable without compromising the quality of conferences. By applying a transdisciplinary research approach, she integrates knowledge and concepts from different stakeholders and scientific disciplines to produce results of practical and scientific relevance.
