Vanja is a doctoral candidate at the USYS TdLab, working on a Horizon2020 project called “ENCLUDE – Energy Citizens for Inclusive Decarbonization” (https://encludeproject.eu/), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. BinBin Pearce and Prof. Dr. Michael Stauffacher. In his doctoral studies, Vanja investigates different collective actions and community energy projects as well as bottom-up approaches as crucial supporting aspects of EU’s decarbonization agenda. As an energy engineer, Vanja is conducting transdisciplinary research that spans across the natural and the social sciences.
Prior to joining the USYS TdLab in August 2021, Vanja Djinlev finished his Master of Science in Energy Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, Italy, in 2019, with a thesis titled “Integration Potential of P2P-based Microgrid System Designs: The Case of Switzerland”. Concurrently to this program, Vanja was also part of the Specializing Master in Cooperation and Development at the University of Pavia, Italy. He finished this specializing master program in 2018 by handing in the thesis titled “Ensuring Energy Access in Emergency and Development Scenarios”. Aside of these two degrees, Vanja also finished a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 2016 at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, North Macedonia, with a thesis titled “Optimization of Emission Coefficients of Pollutants from Mobile Sources in Urban Areas”.
Before joining ETH and the USYS TdLab, Vanja worked as an engineering project consultant in the energy industry as well as a data analyst and researcher in a non-governmental organization.
